Karen,

Do not be discouraged. You will meet with obstacles but you must never give up. You can do it. Your success begins with the will to succeed despite the difficulties.

Your first obstacle will be to decide that you CAN do it. Self-mastery is the most difficult thing you will encounter - the technology piece will come with time, the self-control piece is always a work in progress. Believe it, you can do it. It may SEEM that you can't sometimes, but that is an illusion and a misjudgement on your part.

Learn as much as you can, beat on doors, and always keep your eyes open for the right opportunity.

One day, if you are dilligent and stay the course, you will be given the chance to prove yourself. Your job is to just make sure you are prepared to meet that opportunity. Someone will recognize that you are ready and say to themselves: "well, she has but little experience, but she works hard and seems eager, and we need someone - let's give her a chance."

The amount of your desire will determine the amount of your success. How bad do you want it?

College is optional. Desire, faith, and planning are not.

hth,

Jack the Motivational DBA
