TKPROF output inconsistency

When tracing some sql statement executions, the tkprof output often indicates that the CPU time used is greater than the elapsed time.

This appears inconsistent --- is there an explanation? (this is a single-cpu machine).

This "problem" appears regardless of how many times the statements have been executed
(10 or 10000 for instance)
