Ohhh yes. Here in Argentina Informix and Oracle gave a test demostration of how there database engines would work on various databases that the Educational Ministry.
The tests where based on text search. They went pretty good until one of the the techs in the Ministry told them to search certain words. Horrible!!!! One of the searches took over 45 minutes.
And this reminds me of when I was looking for some benchmarks to see how Solaris performed over Linux on SPARC arch. I couldn't find much, but what I found out is that if you do a benchmark of Solaris against another OS, you can't publish it without the consent of SUN. Very bad, because SUN will not aprove bechmarks that are not favourable to them, even if they are good benchmarks.
So, to finish, I would say that benchmarks should be looked at with eyes wide open, coming from who ever made them (informix, postresql inc., Oracle, SUN, IBM,...) and I am in favour of who said that the best benchmark is that one that you do yourself, with your needs.

Saludos... ;-)
