Linux: Oracle 8.16 Installation Problem

I am currently having problems logging into sqlplus on linux.  I get a 
bad command file after typing sqlplus.  I checked the status of the 
Oracle service and it seems to be running.



ps -ax | grep - ora 



I was able to see all background processes.



However, this is as far as I get.   Can anyone please help me. Thanks.
