I hope this basical 'physical-logical' map of Oracle would help you (please, don't laugh about my "ascii art" eheeh...)

                  logical physical
                  ------ ---------

             Database
                  \|/
                   |
             Tablespace -----? Datafiles
                  \|/ / |
                   | / |
             Segment / |
                  \|/ / |
                   | / |
             Extension /|\ |
                  \|/ |
                   | /|\
           Oracle Block ------? OS Block

I hope this would help you... so, then... a tablespace may contain several segments (rollback ones, tables, indexes, clusters, etc.) but they can be allowed more than one datafile (imagine the usage of a rollback segment, It's for managing transactions that maybe use much extensions, and they can be created in another datafile)...

... hmm... I think It's enough clear... let me know if you understand it... ;-)
