Well, it can be even stranger. I freshly installed windows NT4.0 ona computer with network card and cables attached. Installation was succesfull and netowrk available. Installing the Oracle tools (Designer etc) went OK, eexcept for net8. Not even the configuration of net8 would start!

Anyhow,why would net8 bother about how the physical connection is made? Why then are the different network protocol layers developep (physical layer, TCP/IP, .. ,net8) is configuration of the bottom layer directly influences to upper layers. What kind of mysterious links are present then? Btw on my Linux computer switching the cables alters the network cards setting,I had to disable plug and play again, but then everything went smooth again (as you would expect!).

PL/SQL dveloper is not an Oracle product but from allround automations and a very nice tool for developing PLSQL code. I do not now how it connects to the database, but it does use the tnsnames.ora files.

So, I may have asked for a broken network, but not for a disabled net8!
