Access errors when importing a table that has a function based index.

I have a table that has a function based index on one of its columns. When I look at the column name that the index is on I see 'SYS_NC0038$'. When I then go to import the table into Microsoft Access, it tells me that that the column SYS_NC00038$ doesn't exists, but an index refers to it, and the table is not imported or refreshed when I do a refreshlink.

In order to get around this I dropped the index, imported the table, and then recreated the index. This is all fine. I am just curious as to what is going on.
