Well, we use a RedHat Linux machine with Oracle 8i (8.1.5) The databases are connected by PHP 4 and JSP (using Enterprise Java Beans) scripts.
The web server is an Apache web server.

Reasons for this system: Linux is cheap, comfortable, easy to install and very stable.
