This is an indirect answer but will help you with this question and many future questions. Go to the Oracle home page and find the technology site. At the technology site find the place to register yourself as an Oracle developer - it's free. Once registered you will be able to access the Oracle documentation. Under the general documentation for Oracle is a volume called the concepts manual. This gives you a good overview of the Oracle pieces and how they work with one another - including online and archived redo logs.
