What kind of system are you using? If you have a solaris machine I suggest you use iAS -Oracle's new application server based on the Apache webserver-, and 8i. Also you'll have to consider the hardware requirements for a machine that will both serve 8i and OAS. On NT you would be looking at a dual Pentium with an absolute minimum of 512MB... That's just to be able to start/mount it all. I don't know for solaris, but it would probably be about the same. I don't have any testresults yet from our R&D about the performance of the iAS, but it looks much better than OAS for now... Another point is that you increase scalability by installing on seperate machines. Also I'd like to point out that starting out with the two on one machine can be ok, but if you'd like to seperate them in the future you'll have a problem. I think everybody must have had problems when uninstalling one of a set of more Oracle products on one machine. Oracle tends to clean up to thouroughly.. You'll end up with missing libraries or support files. So personally I'd always try to install on seperate machines, if this is not possible for some reason I'd install them in seperate oracle homes, even if it was possible to put them in one oracle home. Also, I would check out the possibility of using iAS, since I know for a fact that Oracle will throw out the OAS product line, and continue only with the iAS.
