ORACLE : Designer

I'm new to this ORACLE game so please be gentle, I realise that there may be a very simple solution. I am currently evaluating modelling tools for use with our new ORACLE 8i for Linux installation. Hoever, I have been having trouble installing the trial software that I have downloaded. The problem is caused by the ORACLE Home. When I select the existing ORAHOME81 home I get an error immediately saying that the file is already in use as an Oracle home. OK, so I defined a new one. However, I get a little further into the installation and it complains that the product* does not support multiple installations and that I should be using ORAHOME81. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. This is a fresh installation of ORACLE and designer so I can't understand why there should be problems of this nature.

I have read the documentation pertaining to the ORACLE home but see nothing that suggests that I should have a problem performing either of the installations I have tried.

PS. If anyone has any recommendations for good modelling tool let me know. Already looked/looking at PowerDesigner, ORACLE Designer, ERWIN and COOL. Received on Thu Jul 06 2000 - 00:00:00 CDT
