I agree whit Paul.
I've never used SW/HW with RAID3 capabilities. Only
  RAID 0 (mirror),
  RAID 1 (stripe),
  RAID 0+1 (mirroring of stripe),
  RAID 5 (striping with parity)
were the choices I found.

Try this for a very (very very) simple definition of RAID levels http://www.whatis.com/raid.htm

Don't use RAID5 for logfiles. Mirroring (system) or multiplexing (oracle) should be better.
