windows and Oracle?

I am new to Oracle. I tried to install Oracle 8.04 and use it on win98 but failed. It did not run well on win98, in fact, it screwed up my computer a few times. I am wondering whether the more recent versions of Oracle are they better adapted to win9x or I need to use it on NT/2000?
