        I think that the init.ora parameters are left over from the days when 256KB of RAM was a bi-i-i-g system. If you are running a dedicated Oracle server you should size your SGA(s) to total 1/3rd of your avaiable RAM. After your application is up and running monitor memory usage and if you can do so without incurring OS paging increase to 50% of RAM, if you have forced paging cut back to 25% of RAM.

        If you still have OS paging and your SGA is at 25% of RAM you need more RAM in order to get decent performance.
