It all depends. While 1 Gbyte is not very large by today's standards, it also depends on the workload. How many users will be accessing the database concurrently? The "small", "medium", and "large" suggestions in the default init.ora are nothing more than suggestions. For some parameters (SHARED_POOL_SIZE, etc.), the number of concurrent users makes a bigger impact than amount of data.

After initially setting up your database, you'll need to take a look at how well it is running with your current settings and modify them to tune the database.
