NOTE:
- The following is only good if the OS is the same version on both old and new server. Like this is a hardware upgrade only. - Only tried this successfully on SCO Openserver.

  1. Shutdown Oracle instance on old server.
  2. If the 2 servers can see each other on the same network, duplicate exact filesystem structure and transfer the dbf/system/control/init.ora files etc...etc... to the new server. Or do a cold backup on tape and restore to your new server. Make sure file ownerships are correct.
  3. Make sure the new server has all the required kernel parameters (unix only)
  4. Start Oracle up.
  5. You can also do an "orainst" and re-link Oracle (..if your wish).
