I got my first job out of college working for the federal government. There are programs where they will start you off as a GS-5 or GS-7 depending on your grade point, then promote you every six months over a two year period. The pay sucks initially, but I got the experience working on very large databases and spending tax payers' money on patriotic projects. It made my car payments for two years while I kept interviewing. They are always advertising in Information Week.

I am currently attending the UC Davis certification program for Database
Systems & Concepts. This program is heavy into SQL & Oracle. Course   descriptions are at

http://universityextension.ucdavis.edu/certificateprograms/cert db.html.   I'm also taking classes in Visual Basic, Java, Html, Unix and Networking
Essentials and have a 4.0 average.

All of the job postings for Oracle Developers I see require someone to have
experience. I will be completing my certification in Dec. 2000. How do I get
  experience?

  Thanks,
