Oracle Client for Unix question

Hi  all,



I would like to connect to Oracle  8  databases from other  Unix servers. I
can connect with  'sqlplus username/password_at_aliasstring' command if the
Oracle is installed on these servers.



How is Oracle Client for Unix work? Does it require Oracle server
installation before?
