Hello:

I may be shortly installing Oracle 8i as part of an effort to convert an application from microsft sql server to Oracle 8.1.5.

For Oracle 8.0.4/Oracle 6.05, I generally start with 5 rollback segments as aprt of creating an instance. And then proceed to monitor the wraps and extends.

I have, however, been reading that the installation, of Oracle 8i, or the creation of an Oracle instance, is based upon of a formula.

For Oracle 8.0.4 , I have, for the given applications I work with, not been able to determine the transaction size so that the correct number of rollback segments can be initially created.

  1. For Oracle 8.0.4/Oracle 8.05, is there another formula or method I can use to determine the correct number od rollback segments initially at instance creaton?
  2. For Oracle 8.1.5, what is the formula needed to correctly calculatee the number of rollback segments at instance creation time?

Any information will be appreciated. THanks you.
