renaming a table

I am trying to use the RENAME statement to rename a table as follows: RENAME indic3 TO indic4. Everytime I do this, I get an error stating that the object indic3 does not exist, yet I can issue a DESC indic3 and it works just fine. According to the documentation, RENAME should work with a table. Is there something I'm missing here?
