newbie question - ORA-01012 in dbassist

I have struggled through the installation of Oracle8i on RedHat 6.1 Linux
and I think the installation is successful. However, I cannot get dbassist
to generate a database. I get the error ORA-01012 Not Logged On. This occurs
whether I "Build Database Now" or run the script later. Could someone please
tell me what I have missed?
