Can I ask why you are using 1997 market share numbers, when Dataquest has released 1998 and is probably close to releasing 1999? 1998 numbers indicate:

IBM 32.3
Oracle 29.3
Microsoft 10.2
Informix 4.4
Sybase 3.5
Others 20.3

Also, realize that the last time I checked: 1) Microsoft includes SQL Server with every purchase of backoffice, whether the customer uses it or not and 2) Microsoft's share also includes Access.

NT accounted for 19 percent of the RDBMS market in 1997 (compared to Unix's 45 percent), but grew 91 percent over 1996. NT will overtake Unix as the revenue leader by 2003 (0.7 probability).
