"connect internal", database links and sqlnet.ora

This is a followup to another message that I posted earlier this week.

I am in the process of trying to set up database links and snapshots. I initially found that my database links because I had this line in my $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora file:

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(beq,none)

Based on the response I received to a NG posting, I commented this line out and the database link started to work without errors. However, later in the day I logged in as oracle and tried to use svrmgrl to CONNECT INTERNAL and was prompted for the password. I went back to the sqlnet.ora file and uncommented the line given above and once more I could connect internal.

This tends to indicate to me that I can have one or the other but not both. Either I have database links that work properly or I can connect internal - but I can't be set up to do both.

I did find a partial workaround by putting a .sqlnet.ora file in my own personal home directroy and adding my userid to the proper /etc/group entry and now I can "connect / as sysdba", but I consider that to be only a workaround.

Has anyone else encoutered this? Is this universal across all of Oracle 7.3 or is it possibly unique to Oracle 7.3 under Unixware 2.1.2 (actually I am on rdbms release 7.3.4.4)? Received on Wed Feb 23 2000 - 09:54:40 CST
