Here's a strecth (my knowledge of MTS is limited, so bear with me)

 The error refers to protocol probs with a dedicated server. MTS spawns both dedicated and shared processes correct? So what if it is spawning a dedicated process for your link that is using the IPC protocol and when it snatches ahold of the listener, you get a response, but it can't completely communicate, so it chokes when you do a select? Though technically this shouldn't happen as I see you have defined the link using TCP.... er, well, It was worth a thought.
