I have to say that I have attempted to follow instructions also, and run into problems. During the creation of the initial database, I may have had to call Oracle support a couple times when the instructions gave instructions (although I couldn't find the instructions before calling) but muddled through it.

Have you tried following the instructions that I posted that you replied to the first time? I have received an e-mail from one user that has tried loading Oracle for a month and couldn't do it. They found my post and were able to accomplish it. (I could get a fat head!)

If you can give your path to death, or follow the possible path that I generated, we can try and figure out where they diverge. (One note, my installation instructions do not include the 8.1.5.0.2 patch, and I have not yet used the patch, so I don't know how the patch effects the installation.)
