This is likely a y2k issue with the installer. Try this site for a y2k = compliant version:

      I cannot install Oracle Client 8 (Custom Installation) on Windows = 98 platform. The installer has a problem with msvcrt.dll. This file is = allocated in c:\windows\system. The error message is : "ORAINST caused = an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7801518f".   Is there any compatibility problem between Oracle 8 and Windows 98?   Thank you for your help,
