I don't have suid set for my oracle executable. Are you sure this is required for correct behaviour? I mean, my dbora start script runs oracle executable as "oracle". So the suid bit wouldn't have to be set. (I would think...). My database instances start fine. I am having trouble connecting to them from accounts other than oracle, for some reason though. I will try to set the suids and see what happens though.
