Long vs. CLOB datatype

I read somewhere in the Oracle documentation that the LONG datatype is "obselete and will not be supported in the future." With the tiny amount of support for the CLOB datatype, and all of the legacy data that would have to be converted, is there any real reason not to use the LONG datatype? We found much more support and LONGs are easier for us to work with.

Thanks
