I start to understand a little - lets experiment ... do text_items carry the properties you need ? (i dont have forms installed in my office *g*)
if yes: make them non db-based control block items, populate em with the text you want them to show and switch theit properties accordingly ... or prepare items layed out accordingly and switch visibilities between them (a bit clumbsy, i know, but if you need it ... ) ... or combine the items you need in a 'orderly fashion' and switch their attributes ...

dont understand that currently -

can you give me the details of the application problem ? what do you intend to do ?
