I had the same type of problem installing D2K 1.3.2 on my NT workstation with SP5. When D2K was installed first, it installed without any problems. When I tryed to install another Oracle product ( from another CD), the install bombed siting orainst.exe as the problem. It did not matter which order the products were installed, the second product always bombed.

I do not know if this is an issue with SP5 or not. I had successfully installed multiple sets of Oracle products on an NT workstation with SP4. I even tryed resetting the date to 1999 and rebooted, but had the same problem.

I do not know what the problem is or the solution,

BUT I did find a work-around.

Use the orainst.exe already installed with the Oracle 8 Server products. Put the D2K 1.3.2 CD in the CD drive, but do not install it from the CD. If the install program comes up when you insert the CD, exit out of it. Use Windows NT Exployer to go to C:\orant\BIN (or wherever Oracle 8 is installed). Run the orainst.exe program located in this directory. The "Software Asset Manager" will appear with "No Products Available" in the box on the left. Click the "from" button at the top left. The "Open" box will appear. Use the "Up one level" button until you reach "My Computer". Double click on your CD drive. Double click on "Forwinnt". Double click on "Nt.prd". This will list the available products from the CD. At this point continue as you normally would do to install the desired products.

Hope this is successful for you like it was for me.
