HELP: writing data to flat files from Oracle

Is there any way to write data to a flat file from an Oracle database besides using "spool" or the utl_file package in PL/SQL? Anyone know why Oracle doesn't provide a utility like SQLLoader (SQL UN-Loader?) for writing to flat files? Both "spool" and utl_file seem pretty slow.

Thanks!
