microsoft odbc and oledb provider are designed to work with the oracle sqlnet 2.3.4 client layer -- not net8 client !

make sure you're at mdac 2.1 sp2

have sp3 on your vb5 or 6

msft has been working ot correct bugs with ado/mdac/odbc/oledb for 15 months since vb6 came out ..
