I am sorry to sound naive here, but I am struggling to move from my MS Access and systems design into some *real* database work.

I found some posts in the past in this group which discuss a "database link" -- surprisingly, its there in the Oracle documentation itself!

But I need a bit of more specific help, which I think I did not specify in my last post.

I have to write a stored procedure to trasfer data between 2 databases.

How can I do this? Can I use a simple COPY command if the structure of the two tables (in either database) is different? If not, then how can I use the database link IN A UNIX ENVIRONMENT to write a stored procedure?

What kind of access rights would I need? If there is already a DATABASE LINK I mean, and how can I access this?

I would really appreciate if someone could guide me here. If this is not the place to discuss this, I would really appreciate if someone could tell me where to look. Yahoo and Altavista return thousands of results!!

Thank you very much!

Cheers,
Ben
