SNPn processes

I have a 7.3.4 database on a Unixware 2.1.2 platform and when I do a:



ps -ef | grep -i ora



I see that there is an SNP0 process running.



Can someone tell me why? I understand that this has something to do with
snapshots. What would I need to do to turn it off?
