Extracting BLOBs

Hi,

Simple question, not so simple answer.
Is there a way of saving a file in a BLOB field to an external operating system file?
If the field was a CLOB, i could read it bit by bit and save it to an external file using utl_file. However, the utl_file utility will not work with binary data.

Any comments welcome.
