This is not new; it is the direction that Ellison stated a year or two
ago. Ellison saw that access to server based applications from a true
thin client, i.e., browser only desktop was not only possible but was a
new emerging trend. This view of the world, thin client to application
server to database server greatly reduces the cost of the front-end
while providing the centralized support that most larger shops want and
need over the data, security, etc...
WebDB and version 8i, also known as 8.1 are steps/tools in this direction.
