i had a similar problem with Microsoft ODBC Drivers (for oracle 7) and Net8 the only ODBC driver i found to work was Oracle ODBC driver shipped with Oracle8 Client software
Even the Oracle 7.3 ODBC Driver didn't work (he could not find the database alias)

i will search for ADO updates at Oracle's site i keep you informed if i solve the problem Regards
