Expanded control file section

In the database alert.log we have the following message :
"kccrsz: expanded control file section from ...to ... records"
After a while we have another error :
"kccrsz: denied expansion of controlfile section 9 by 53619 record(s)
the number of records is already at maximum value (65535) krcpwnc: following controlfile record written over: RECID #18369 Recno 49519 Record timestamp 09/02/99 11:30:35

So we decide to rebuild the control file and the error ORA 00219 occurs.

Does anybody can explain what happend and is there another solution than rebuild the database ?
