Should have read the post more carefully - I'm not familiar with SUN technology, but the version of Oracle you use must match the OS. So I would expect the label on the CD to be 'Oracle 8i for Solaris 7'. However, I have just gone onto the Oracle Metalink site and found 'Installation Guide Release 8.1.5 for SPARC Solaris' - which states the OS can be 2.6 or 2.7 - so is Solaris 7 really 2.7?? In which case your CD for 2.6 may work.
