RAD Deployment

Has anyone used Personal Oracle (7 or 8) as a DB on a stand-alone DB for a serious application ? If so, were your experiences with it good ? Did you use ODBC ?

We are thinking of using Borland's Delphi or C++Builder to produce an App. which will, in different incarnations, exist on a stand-alone PC and in a client-server environment talking to an Oracle7/8 DB.

Any other stand-alone DBs recommended ?
