If you do not use Oracle 8i you have to do a lot: Rename the table, create a new table without the column you want to drop, create the indexes ... There are tools like Hora 3 wich can perform this task (and also a rename column) for you. See http://www.keeptool.com for a free trial version of Hora 3.
