DBMS_SQL.V7 in PL/SQL

In the PARSE statement of the DBMS_SQL package it is necessary to reference DBMS_SQL.V7. I think I read somewhere that this is a reference to the version of Oracle/DBMS_SQL which the PL/SQL package is using. Is this correct? Are there any later versions of this on Oracle 8.x? Everything I am running currently works, but I want to make sure that I am working with the latest versions. Thanks.
