I tried to install Oracle 8 many times. I guess I don't have the right libraries... but there is nothing telling me what I need to compile and install.

In the meantime, I configured, compiled, and installed Postgres on the first pass. ODBC and JDBC support comes with the .tar file.

Of course, you don't get the features you get with Oracle, but on the plus side, the engine is smaller and faster.

Open Source works.
