That depends on what type of jobs you're thinking of. I use perl with it's oracle programming interface oraperl for lots of data extraction tasks. As long as you're not depending on the use of varying fonts and fontsizes etc. you'll find that oraperl gives you an excellent control over the data selection and -formatting.
