SID Blues...

I'm having awful trouble with 8.04.00 on the client side.

I've installed a new DB (called "app2") on the NT server, running 8.04 also. I installed the client side from the same CD on one of my 98 machines on the same LAN as the server.

I used Oracle's "database assistant" to create the DB. No problem.

Now I cannot connect to this DB in any form or fashion. Even from the server. I'm asked by Oracle's tools the user id, password and either one of the following depending on which tool I'm using (I.e. : SQL Plus, Ent Manager etc):
- Service

• SID
• Host String
• Connect String
• Server

I've tried about everything and every combination of "app2" I can think of. There is no "ORACLE_SID" env var in either my NT server or my 98 machine. I give up.

What command, or tool will show me all DB's installed on that server? How do I display what remotes' expect for a connect string for a particular DB?
