SYSDATE and GMT and NEW_TIME

In the UNIX environment, is there a way to re-configure SYSDATE to return the GMT rather than local time?

Is there another method I can use where oracle will store GMT rather than local time?

Using the NEW_TIME function in Oracle 8, does anyone know if it is support for other Time Zones, other than those in America and GMT? Can I use this function in Australia?

Thanks in advance
