ODBC Driver - which one

   Hi,

I am on a Solaris 2.6 box with Oracle 8.0.4 (will be going to 8.0.5) and I have been using both the 8.0.4 and 8.0.5 drivers - they are very flaky, we are using Access 97 to access the database through ODBC. In desperation, I installed the MS ODBC driver and it works, however it doesnt support all the features of Oracle 8, in addition to a new set of problems it caused.

I am now researching the purchase of third party ODBC drivers. What drivers does everyone use and why? Which ones do you recommend and why. Does anyone have an opinion on the Merant drivers? What would you consider the driver that holds the market share? Also, has price played a factor in your decision (in other words are some of these drivers so expensive that they priced themselves out of your budget).

And to add to the problem, we are going to install Office 2000 and use ODBC with it.

Thank You
