A better solution is to have only one set of files, and use the TNS_ADMIN registry parameter to point to that set. Both SQL*Net 2.x and Net8 recognize it.

To further confuse matters, I understand Oracle8i uses \network again.

Oracle Net8 Assistant (n8a.exe) is a really nice product (well, except for the odd java startup problems).
