Oracle's support for file attachments, sound and video

I'm interested in finding out about how oracle supports file attachments,
sound and video within the database. Does it recognize them natively, or
do I store them as LOBs, retrieve the temp files and then process them?
I'm interested in both Oracle 8 and 8i.

If anyone has experience (good or bad) with it, I'd appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
