The Oracle documentation (8.0.4) states that:



This release of Net8 supports both the WINSOCK 1.1 and WINSOCK2 socket
interface. Net8 automatically detects WINSOCK2 on Windows NT and uses it if
it is available.



Does anyone know:



    
  
  1.   how Oracle determines if Winsock 2 is available on NT4
  
  2.   how to prevent Oracle from using Winsock 2 in favor of Winsock 1.1
